Dogs in Parks

West Vancouver is a dog and dog owner's dream. There are trails, parks, seaside walks and lots of designated off-leash areas. Please follow the rules, and you'll get the most out of what this dog-friendly community has to offer. Take your canine buddy and start exploring!

On-leash areas

Dogs are allowed on-leash in most areas of most parks, but not in playgrounds, swimming beaches, sports fields and school fields. Please check all signage before entering any park.

Off-leash areas

Let your dog stretch its legs in one of 14 off-leash areas:

  1. Ballantree Park* (see notice to the right)
  2. Benbow Park
  3. Seawalk, north of the fence (19th to 24th Streets only)*
  4. Clovelly Walk
  5. Cypress Falls Park
  6. Douglas Woodward Park
  7. Hay Park
  8. Klahanie Park (trails only)
  9. Lighthouse Park (trails only)
  10. Walking trails and fire access roads in the undeveloped lands above the highway (with exceptions; please see map)
  11. McKechnie Park
  12. Seaview Walk
  13. Westhill Park
  14. Whytecliff Park

Dogs are allowed off-leash on walking trails and fire access roads in undeveloped public lands above the Upper Levels Highway. Please:

  • do not trespass on private land
  • review all signage carefully
  • clean up after your dog

Seawalk rules

Take your dog on a scenic waterfront stroll with a fenced trail to trot along! This off-leash dog path is available between 19th and 24th Streets. Remember to leash your dog before and after the path.

Prohibited Areas

Please remember dogs are not allowed on beaches, sports fields, school facilities, playgrounds and other municipal facilities.

Dog Waste Only Bins

Visitors to some parks throughout West Vancouver will notice bright red bins for “Dog Waste Only”. This is part of West Vancouver's effort to separate dog waste from regular park garbage by providing alternate disposal bins.

This program will be expanding over the next several years to areas that see the most dog use. Learn more:

A section of the trail that leads to the park is located on private property (see map).

The property owner has recently installed no trespassing signs.

The District is exploring options to address access to trails and parking adjacent to Ballantree Park.
